Accordion Menu is discontinued

Nextend Accordion Menu is our oldest product, which was available for Joomla users since 2010. After many years of development, we decided to discontinue Nextend Accordion Menu. At the same time we’re making it available to the Joomla and WordPress community for free under the GPL license.

The future of Accordion Menu

Accordion Menu was released under GPL license. Starting from August 26, 2020 we make it available for the public for free, but without any support. As a result, any developer who wishes can develop Accordion Menu further.

They can add new features, make Accordion Menu compatible with Joomla 4 or anything else they choose. Due to the possibilities of GPL, the developer(s) who decide to take over can even sell Accordion Menu further.

What happens to existing customers?

We’ll provide support for all our existing customers until January 1st, 2021 or until their subscription is active. Subscriptions will be cancelled in the upcoming weeks, and they will stay active until the period ends, so you won’t be charged anymore. If you have an active subscription and want to cancel your package yourself, you can do it at your account.

We’re not aware of any problems with the extension, and it works fine on Joomla 3.9.x. It doesn’t support Joomla 4, though. As for WordPress, it works fine on WordPress 5.5. We’ll also keep the documentation available for anyone until January 1st, 2022.

Starting from August 26, 2020 we’re discontinuing Accordion Menu. It’s no longer available for purchase, and we’re slowly canceling the subscription of our existing users.

What does the discontinued state mean?

We’re not going to add new features into Accordion Menu. Fixes and support will be available until January 1st, 2021, or until your subscription is active. This does not include making Accordion Menu compatible with Joomla 4.

Why did we discontinue Accordion Menu?

Accordion Menus were trending a couple of years ago. However, we’ve noticed that on modern sites there’s little to no demand for them. As a result, less and less people use accordion menus on their website, which meant less people using our Nextend Accordion Menu extension.

For these reasons, we decided discontinue Accordion Menu. As a result, we can free up developer resources and focus on our existing plugins and extensions, and maybe develop new awesome plugins and extensions for you to use on your site in the 2020s.

Summing up

Discontinuing Accordion Menu allows us to focus on other development, and frees up resources to do so. Since Accordion Menu is under the GPL license, any developer is free to develop it further. As a staring point, we make it available for public download.
